I ASK OF THEE
Words & Music by Jim Turner
Intro Piano
Verse 1
Each week I long for this day of rest
When to partake the sacrament I know I’m blessed
When I feel the Saviour’s cleansing power
As I ask forgiveness in this special hour
Chorus
Please bless me Lord I ask of thee
to feel of thy spirit and to be near to thee
Forgive me Lord the wrongs I’ve done
As before thee now I do come
Verse 2
As I partake of the broken bread
His suffering I remember as I bow my head
In Gethsemane and upon the cross
For sins and wrongs that I have done
Chorus
Please bless me Lord I ask of thee
to feel of thy spirit and to be near to thee
Forgive me Lord the wrongs I’ve done
As before thee now I do come
Verse 3
When of the water I do drink
Of the Atonement I do think
The gift He gave this gift of love
Is a special blessing from God above

2 Corinthians 7: 10, Matthew 9: 2-8, Luke 11: 1-4 &
22: 1-20, 1 Corinthians 3: 16-17
Verse 1
Each week I long for this day of rest
In the Old Testament the children of Israel were told
to rest from their day to day work on Sunday and the penalty for breaking
this commandment was to be stoned to death.
In 2010 it is common for businesses to stay open 7 days however this commandment
is still in force
When to partake the sacrament I know I’m blessed
When I feel the Saviour’s cleansing power
At the last supper with his disciples before his death
Jesus introduced the sacrament which following our baptism enables us
to be washed clean of all our sins each week as we partake of the bread
and water
providing we are sincere in our desire to be forgiven by having a broken
heart and contrite spirit. (2 Corinthians 7: 10)
As I ask forgiveness in this special hour
As we partake of the sacrament we need to sincerely repent
of those things we know we have done wrong and also ask forgiveness for
things we did wrong without knowing or things we should have done but
didn't do we should also think of our Saviour Jesus Christ who was perfect
in every way and gave His life willingly as payment for all our sins so
that we can return to live with God but this forgiveness is conditional
on our willingness to accept and acknowledge Jesus Christ as being our
Saviour and Redeemer. (1 Corinthians 3: 16-17)
Chorus
Please bless me Lord I ask of thee
to feel of thy spirit and to be near to thee
When we are close to the Lord we will feel His spirit
guiding us as we make keeping His commandments a focus in our lives. (Luke
11: 1-4)
Forgive me Lord the wrongs I’ve done
As before thee now I do come
We need to ask for His forgiveness for the wrong things
we have done in the past week and if we are sincere these sins will be
washed away (Matthew 9: 2-8)
Verse 2
As I partake of the broken bread
His suffering I remember as I bow my head
The bread is symbolic of His body and the physical pain
and suffering in Gethsemane where He bled from every pore as He took upon
Him the sins of everyone who will ever live upon this earth beginning
with Adam and Eve. (Luke 22: 19)
In Gethsemane and upon the cross
For sins and wrongs that I have done
He again willingly suffered physical agony on the cross
in order to complete the work His Father had given him to do.
Verse 3
When of the water I do drink
Of the Atonement I do think
The water is symbolic of His blood which He shed for us
and He acts as our spokesman when we are judged because He has suffered
everything we have suffered and He knows more about us than we know about
ourselves. (Luke 22: 20)
The gift He gave this gift of love
Is a special blessing from God above
He gave himself as a sacrifice for everyone who will live
on this earth but we still have the choice to reject this free gift if
we wish to however if we accept it and we are worthy it makes it possible
for us to live with God our Father in Heaven.
(Mark 16: 15-16)
